What made you want to DJ?
Went on a family holiday to Cyprus and experienced Ayia Napa for the first time. I immediately had the garage bug, the buzz was incredible….I bought my first set of decks the minute the plane landed back in Edinburgh. Hearing UKG and sourcing records was extremely tough in Scotland but I stuck with it over the years.
What was the first track you bought specifically to DJ with?
Ed Case – Something In Your Eyes 12″ (Red Rose Recordings 2000)
Everybody wants to be a DJ these days. What ignites your passion to continue, despite the competitiveness within club culture?
The amount of quality music out there at the moment is the main reason, not enough hours in the day to play all the tracks I’d like to play. Being inspired by and having the support of the top class DJ’s on here is also a huge factor and encourages me to want to play and improve each week.
If you could go back in time and be involved in the club scene of any era, when would this be and why?
I would love to go back to 1989 but the one for me would have to be London in the mid 90s to live the birth of the House and Garage scene. Unfortunately I wouldn’t have got served a brandy and coke at 10 year old and lived 400 mile away so the best part of the scene passed me by.
Who would be your dream guest on your show?
The DJ I spend most time listening to and whose selections I admire is Jose Padilla……A nice Friday afternoon chill out set on the Juicy Fruit Sessions would work a treat.
If you could go B2B with any DJ on the planet, who would it be and where?
Tough one…..actually now it has come to me it’s an easy one….has to be Kerri Chandler, yes definitely Kerri Chandler. Venue; would have to be the Space terrace…..SCENES!!!!
What was the last tune that was stuck in your head before this interview?
The last song on shuffle on my iPod was DJ Zinc – Casino Royal. Those rolling drums stuck in the napper for a good ol’ while. CASIIINO ROYAL
If you could have made any of the the records you have played which one would it be and why?
There’s many but I’ll go with Roy Davis Jr – Gabriel. Every time I here that song it sounds as special as the first time.
What’s your musical guilty pleasure? – Don’t be shy 😉
I used to own a few of the Bonkers happy hardcore CD’s with Hixxy, Sharkey and Dougal etc….Cheese on toast…say no more 🙂
If you could only listen to the same 5 records for the rest of your life, what would they be?
This changes on a daily basis, today I’m going with;
1) Air – Moon Safari
2) John Martyn – Solid Air
3) The Streets – Original Pirate Material
4) Donovan – Catch the Wind
5) Primal Scream – Screamadelica
