GETTING D3EP WITH AM2PM…

5 questions with Matt Kye & Alec Sun Drae of AM2PM

.

How’s your 2017 been so far? Any favourite moments?
Matt: 2017 got off to a hard start due to closing our studio of 11 years and then building the new one. We have been probably the least productive this year since AM2PM was incarnated.

Alec: I would say playing Eden, Ibiza for Let There Be House team. Surreal moment, insane club, lovely crowd, goosebumps and tears (yes I do get emotional on stage because house is a feeling) also Simon’ Dunmore’s kids dancing with us on stage.

What big plans do you have in store for next year?
Matt: Huge plans for next year as not only do we launch our label in January (power & purpose) we are also releasing our debut album. That’s where most of the focus has gone this year. We are working with some amazing artists as co writers so all will be revealed but it’s incredibly exciting

Alec: Album, album, album – definitely our main focus. I feel like we have something to say and it’s hard to translate the into 5 minute single format but with an album we will be able to take you guys on a journey. We are ready to tell our story. Oh…and launch of our label!

The chemistry you two share on stage and in the studio is incredible. What advice can you give to other musicians on how to work effectively in a collaboration?
Matt: Thanks for that. We’re glad you liked our live show when you were in Amsterdam. Working as a partnership has its ups and downs, it’s great to bounce ideas off each other, where working alone it can be difficult. Listening to each other is key.

Alec: We just love what we do and wouldn’t change it for the world. I’d say we are very lucky to be able to do what we do and none of this would be possible without teamwork. We bounce ideas off each other and feel that each brings something else to the table, which works well as a whole. I would say most important things is respect and faith in each other. We argue and we are both musically headstrong but we both have the same goal and works towards it. Also being patient – this is a journey not a race and we stay focused, driven and totally committed to AM2PM. as they say – move with power and purpose and people will follow

What’s your favourite genre outside of house music?
Matt: Speaking for me I love a lot of Rock Music believe it or not and spent a lot of time in a rock band drumming away in my teen years.

Alec: I love D’n’B and 2-step, but I actually used to sing reggae, funk and soul so bit of everything really.

If you could remix/rework any Christmas song, which would it be?

Matt: Oh gosh!! It would have to be “Let It Snow.”

Alec: In my house, my parents would play Enya instead of classic carols so probably something by her or “Hallelujah.”
